Kumbhalgarh Trekking

kumbhalgarh trekking in Udaipur

Built and ruled by Rana Kumbha and his dynasty of Sisodia Rajputs descendents. Kumbhalgarh is mainly known for its Fort which is massive and built on a hilltop 1100 metres above sea level. The Fort of Kumbhalgarh has is the second longest continuous wall in the world after The Great Wall of China and it extend upto 36 kilometres. Kumbhalgarh has 7 fortified gateways. It is also possible to see kilometers into the Aravalli Range and The sand dunes of the Thar desert from the fort walls. This provides excellent location for adventure and trekking trips.

There are over 360 (estimated) temples within the Kumbhalgarh Fort out of which 300 are ancient Jain and the rest are Hindu which shows rich spiritual diversity of the place.

Kumbhalgarh also separates Mewar from Marwar. History states that it was used as a place of refuge for the rulers of Mewar at times of danger. The fort also served as a childhood home for the infant king of Mewar who was smuggled here in 1535. That king was Prince Udai who later succeeded to the throne was also the founder of the Udaipur City. This also makes it a curious destination for many historians.
